About the Author
Juan Garita was born in 1977, in San José, Costa Rica.
He started composing at ages 13-14 with his cousins. Between the ages of 16 and 21, he started recording original music with his cousin Pablo Argüello, using a small journalist recorder. Several songs from his first official album date from that period, such as Horizonte (Horizon), Luna Llena (Full Moon) and Magia (Magic).
Juan completed the Etapa Básica Studies in Classical Guitar, at the Universidad de Costa Rica (6 years of studies in music). He also studied composition and orchestration at Colorado College. Finally, he received his BA in Business Administration from the Universidad de Costa Rica and got his MBA degree from Pacific States University, in Los Angeles.
Juan was a member of the Guitar Orchestra of the Universidad de Costa Rica and got the opportunity to participate in the recording of two albums (En Tiempo de Danza and Noche de Paz) and performed live concerts in dozens of locations and events, including the National Theater of Costa Rica, the National Theater of Ecuador and the renowned Amadeo Roldán Theater in Cuba.
When he was 26 years old, he met Erika Levy and they fell in love. Seven months later they got married in Portland, Oregon and they reside in the United States since then.
